#005: How to Implement the Cycles Approach

We're continuing our series about Articulation Therapy over on the blog by diving into a case study that highlights the Complexity Approach. You'll be introduced to Sophie, a five-year-old preschooler who scored in the 1st percentile (Standard Score = 63) on the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation (GFTA-3). We introduce the speech sound difficulties she struggled with, along with the targets we identified, goals we set, and activities to help her achieve them using the complexity approach. Check it out!

The Complexity Approach for Articulation Therapy: A Case Study

We've been diving into a review of Articulation Approaches on the SLP Now blog, and this post is all about the Cycles Approach. Some studies have found that the Cycles Approach results in improved consonant production in conversational contexts, and that children with less severe phonological and language impairments improve in both domains when the Cycles Approach is used. Click through to learn about Jayden, a four-year-old preschooler whose speech difficulties were creating frustrations for him, and how the Cycles Approach improved his intelligibility.

The Cycles Approach for Articulation Therapy: A Case Study

This week on the blog we are introducing you to Casey, a fifth grader who struggled to produce her "r" and "th" sounds. We dive into her treatment plan and provide examples of target selection using a developmental approach. We also share sample short-term + long-term goals, as well as strategies and activities for implementing this approach. Check it out →

The Developmental Approach to Articulation Therapy: A Case Study

After I finished grad school and started working as a school-based SLP, I found myself with "articulation only" students on my caseload pretty regularly. Despite everything I'd learned, I wondered if I was doing what was best for my students, and if I really had a handle on approaching treatment plans for speech sound disorders. I wanted them to get great results from therapy, so I started researching. This month on the blog, we're diving into articulation approaches, and evidence-based practices for treating them. Head over to the blog for the first post in this series: Articulation 101.

Articulation 101: A Review of the Approaches

If you have any students with a lateral lisp on your caseload, then you’ll want to read this interview with an SLP who treated a student with it. She shares her experience and what she learned for how to support this student in speech therapy. Click through to read her interview!
